Paws in Te Puna is a long-running boarding cattery at 31 Te Puna Quarry Road, north-west of Tauranga, operating for more than twenty years under the name Top Katz before rebranding. Run by Serena, the facility is built around individual enclosed runs of a generous size — a minimum of 3 metres by 1 metre — each fitted with ramps, multiple levels, an inside sleeping space, sneeze guards and privacy screens. Enclosures were designed with veterinary input and look out onto sunlit areas and birdlife. Single, double and larger family runs are available for cats from the same household, plus a separate social cabin for vaccinated, sociable cats. Short and long-term stays are both accommodated.

My cats have been going to Paws in Te Puna (previously Topkatz) for over 20 years, I never have any hesitation leaving my animals in their care which is exemplary. Plenty of hands on attention and time spent with the animals, the runs are scrupulously clean and water always provided and refilled. I cannot recommend this cattery enough either for short or long term stays.
Booked in my 2 cats here for 2 months, while we went on vacation. They have such great cattery, outdoors and spacious. The cat rooms are a generous size. the owner Serena is very kind and friendly and understanding about cats needs and wellbeing. We would definitely recommend this place to everyone. I would go back to her again in the future.
We needed a place for our kitty, Mango, while we were overseas for ten days, and Paws in Te Puna were really great, they even took her in last minute when our other Cattery arrangement fell through! The place is clean, well secured, and the people were lovely. Our poor cat is extremely skittish and I'm sure she gave them a hard time but the staff were ready for anything! 10/10 will use them again.
We've left our elderly cat at Paws several times, once for a few days and later for three weeks while on holiday. Serena is so accommodating and very patient with nervous cat mums :). I highly recommend Paws.

Yes. Paws in Te Puna operated as Top Katz Cattery for more than twenty years at the same address, 31 Te Puna Quarry Road, before changing its name. Long-standing customers still refer to it by the old name.
How big are the enclosures?
Individual runs are a minimum of 3 metres long by 1 metre wide, with ramps, multiple levels, an enclosed inside space, sneeze guards and privacy screens. They were designed with veterinary input.
Can cats from the same household share?
Yes. Double runs are available for two cats, and larger runs accommodate three to six cats from one family. Sharing also reduces the per-cat rate.
Can my cat socialise with other cats?
There is a separate social cabin for cats from different households, but only for cats that are up to date with vaccinations, healthy and genuinely sociable. Cats who prefer their own space stay in individual runs.
Is there a minimum stay?
The previous three-night minimum charge was removed on trial from August 2024. Confirm the current position when booking.
Do you take long-term bookings?
Yes. Long stays are common here, and stays over four weeks may qualify for a reduced rate on enquiry.
What happens if my cat needs a vet?
The cattery will arrange veterinary transport if needed. Any costs incurred are passed on to the owner.
